Sri Hadhy was born in Purwodadi, Central Java in 1943. He pursued his artistic repertoire through graduating from Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI Yogyakarta) and at Vrije Academie voor Beeldedde Kunsten (The Hague, Netherlands).
Before becoming a painter, Sri Hadhy first ideals was to be a teacher, yet fate took him to a different route. His artistic aesthetics as sharpened through his fascination with the walls. Indeed, as a child – he loved to paint birds, ships, trees, and other natural sceneries. It was a natural progression and decision on his part to be a professional painter.
Sri Hadhy wandered literally through the world, first leaving his hometown tor Jakarta – starting with work contract of creating reliefs in Monument Jakarta until the exhibition of paintings at Balai Budaya and other art communities.
Driven by the passion and willpower, Sri Hadhy flew to neighboring Malaysia. Lapse some time flying away from Malaysia to Europe. The goal is the country of windmills, the Netherlands. More than 20 years old residing in The Hague. Occasionally, he will go back to Indonesia for some exhibition, then he would be back to his base in Netherlands. Europe truly has shaped Sri Hadhy’s aesthetics preferences and he was heavily influenced by Karel Appel, the leading Dutch expressionist painter.

One can only imagine his persistence in challenging environment, where he had to face many talented European painters who are not only talented but also has established their names. Despite these challenge, Sri Hadhy was determined to survive as a painter in Europe. He painted not only in the Netherlands, but also other European countries such as France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, England to name a few. Fortunately, there is a niche of European collectors who truly appreciate Sri Hadhy’s paintings.
Sri Hadhy's paintings are records of environmental conditions and facts in the field mixed with aesthetic subjectivity and his thoughts and opinions on these facts. When we glance at this work, the meaning will not immediately apparent. As we look closer, we will uncover the coveted meaning behind his work. Just like any ordinary events, it will also be our choices to glance and to look away – if we are looking for the easy answer.
