Krukut River

This view was taken from the bridge at the eastern end of Jalan Toko Tiga between Jalan Pintu Kecil and Jalan Pancoran. It looks along the Kali Krukut (Krukut River) towards the bridge which marks the opposite end of Jalan Toko Tiga. The distinctive architecture of the Chinese houses and shops is very evident here and is one of the main features of the Glodok district.

The chinese played an important role in almost every aspect of trade , commerce, distribution, industry and agriculture in Batavia, and they continue to do so this day.

Toko Tiga remains an important commercial area in Glodok to this day and some of the old-style Chinese houses visible on the right still exist, although usally in a heavily altered form.
