The Harmonie Society
This painting was inspired from the history of “ The Harmonie Society “. Harmonie society was well-recognized due its history (in existence in 1803 and may have even dated from the 1780s).
Despite the political and economic turmoil of the Indonesia, Harmonie’s strategic location helps foster the Dutch traditional cultural values.
Unfortunately , the Harmonie building was sadly demolished in April 1985 to facilitate the widening of Jalan Majapahit.
This painting juxtaposed the challenge of modern society needs for urbanization at the expense of preserving heritage, cultural values, and architectural legacy.
